Story

I met Ben one night when he was doing the opening act for Gil Scott Heron at a club called SOB's. I processed my film overnight and brought him a print the next day, as he did a small acoustic gig in the store window of "Rebel Rebel", a record store down my street. That's how we connected.

I was a photo student in NYC, and Ben had only made one record by then so his fame was still quite limited, which allowed be to have great access. I photographed him most times he came to town, playing in small venues, sometimes sharing the stage with other bands during the night.
He told me that his mom had a whole wall of my prints in her house.
