Story

The city of Saint Denis, north of Paris, conjures both stories of successes and failures when it comes to racial integration. Some of the worst racial tensions can be felt in some of its –many- neighborhoods, yet some others tell the story of a very friendly and successful coexistence.

The school Aimée Césaire has just been rebuilt. In spite of its location by the train tracks, and at the end of a grim street, this school seems to embody both what the state set itself as a mission when it decided to make school mandatory, at the turn of the XXth century, and the resolution of the current challenge of educating all French children equally, no matter what their origins may be.

Beyond
